Gender Equality in Taekwondo

People always have the misconception that Taekwondo or any other martial arts are only meant for men. However, this is not true as there are successful stories of women who excel in Taekwondo. Taekwondo is a combat sport whereby both genders are actually able to learn and excel equally. As long the effort is being put in by the practitioner, there can definitely be results that will be seen regardless of the gender. One good example will be Thailand’s Renowned Women Taekwondo Athlete, Panipak Wongpattanakit. Panipak started taekwondo when she was 9 years old. Being smaller in built and skinny compared to other athletes, it was definitely a tough challenge for Panipak not just only in Thailand National Team but also during her regular trainings. Her coach encouragements and support led her to her success in Taekwondo, representing Thailand for International Competitions and eventually clinching the gold medal for her country during the 2020 Tokyo Olympics. Panipak’s story has proven that regardless of gender, everyone is able to excel in Taekwondo and gain something meaningful out of it.
